JANUS® Ultrabroadband Security Scanner
The JANUS from CEIA USA is an ultrabroadband security scanner designed for the inspection of passengers and the automatic detection of metal, ceramic, and explosive threats. Using localized electromagnetic waves, the system delivers high-accuracy threat detection with an extremely low nuisance alarm rate. Featuring a standalone archway design, no moving parts, and full ADA-compliant wheelchair accessibility, JANUS is built for demanding security environments.
High Security Scanner
High-volume security environments require detection systems that can identify a broad range of concealed threats, including metal, ceramic, and explosive materials, without slowing passenger flow or generating excessive false alarms. The JANUS ultrabroadband security scanner meets this challenge with electronically scanned transducer arrays configured in an elliptical arrangement for enhanced angular coverage, delivering near-field focusing, very high illumination uniformity, and outstanding detection accuracy across the full body of the person under inspection.
JANUS is engineered for efficient, operator-friendly deployment in airports, border control checkpoints, and security-sensitive facilities requiring indoor fixed installation. Its superior throughput and low nuisance alarm rate support two-operator inspection lanes, reducing queuing time and eliminating unnecessary secondary screening. The system’s narrow footprint allows facilities to configure more screening lanes within limited floor space, while its fully compliant wheelchair pathway and LED footstep guidance ensure an accessible, comfortable experience for all passengers.
Where JANUS Excels

Airport Passenger Security Screening
JANUS is purpose-built for high-throughput airport checkpoint operations, where detection accuracy and low nuisance alarm rates directly impact passenger flow and operator efficiency. Its narrow design allows airports with limited screening floor space to deploy more lanes without sacrificing compliance or performance .

Border Control & National Security
Designed to support screening activities in public security environments, JANUS delivers the detection depth and operational reliability required for national security and border control applications where consistent threat identification and high throughput are critical for day to day operations.

Access Control at Security-Sensitive Facilities
For government, critical infrastructure, and other high-security facilities requiring controlled access, JANUS provides fixed-installation screening with centralized management capability, supporting consistent security performance across single or multi-site deployments .

Technical Specifications & Accessories
Ultrabroadband Threat Detection
JANUS detects metal, ceramic, and explosive threats using localized electromagnetic waves transmitted and received by electronically scanned transducer arrays. This ultrabroadband approach ensures comprehensive threat identification across a wide range of concealed materials regardless of composition. The result is a single-pass inspection capable of addressing multiple threat categories simultaneously without additional equipment or reconfiguration.
Elliptical Transducer Array with Electronic Scanning
JANUS transducer arrays are elliptically shaped to provide enhanced angular coverage of the person under inspection, with scanning performed entirely electronically. Near-field focusing and very high illumination uniformity ensure consistent detection performance across the full body surface. The absence of mechanical moving parts eliminates wear-related maintenance while delivering very high redundancy and long-term operational reliability.
Wheelchair-Compliant Pathway
JANUS offers the lowest total width of any wheelchair-compliant security scanner, with a low-profile entry slope enabling easy, unassisted wheelchair access. Full ADA compliance is achieved within the standard lane footprint, eliminating the need for a separate accessible screening lane. This allows facilities to maintain consistent throughput and security performance across all passenger types.
Narrow Footprint for High-Density Lane Configuration
JANUS’s narrow design allows airports and facilities with limited screening floor space to deploy more lanes within their existing checkpoint footprint. Combined with superior throughput and a low nuisance alarm rate, this enables two-operator inspection per lane without sacrificing detection performance or creating passenger bottlenecks.
Touchscreen Operator Interface
A 19.5″ touchscreen display with superior resolution provides operators with a clear, intuitive interface for monitoring and system control. The display measures 11.6″ x 19.2″ x 1.5″, supporting ergonomic placement at the screening station.
Power & Environmental Specifications
The JANUS system meets IP20 protection standards and operates solely on a wall outlet. For reference the operation equals to 100–120 V AC (±10%) at 60 Hz, with power consumption of 1,150 W during active analysis, 850 W in ready-to-scan mode, 750 W after one minute of inactivity, and 40 W in standby.
Physical Dimensions & Weight
JANUS measures 57″ W x 92.7″ H x 69.5″ D (1450 mm x 2355 mm x 1765 mm) and is designed for permanent indoor fixed installation.
NetID® Network Management System
NetID provides centralized, real-time monitoring and management of all CEIA security devices across single or multi-site installations. Operators can configure working parameters, monitor transit flow, and generate automated reports on screening volume and alarm rates from a single server. Complete transit and configuration data is recorded for multiple years, with remote control and verification of security levels available at any time.
